A verdict was given for Lord Loughborough in a case in which he was sued by a firm of bookmakers for the recovery of £440 sterling on a dishonoured cheque given in settlement of a racing bet. The verdict was for defendant on the ground that it was a gaming transaction. RESULT OF RIOT. (Received this day at 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, October 18, It is estimated that fifty to cue hundred persons were trampled down ly police horses or hurt by flying missiles during the Downing Street riot, RACING STOPPED. (Received This -Day at 8.40 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 18. Owing to the strike the Jockey Clubs have abandoned the fixtures at Doncaster, Sandown and Stockton. GREEK REGENCY. (Received This Day at 8.40 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 18. The Greek Legation states the Regency in the event of a vacancy in the throne had not been contemplated as there are very strong hopes of the King’s recovery. Government only discussed the establishment of a Regency to deal with current affairs in the King’s name while his Majesty was unable. to attend to State affairs.
