f AUSTRALIAN it N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATIONJ WHEAT PARITY. SYDNEY, Oct. 16. Air Dunn told a. deputation of wheat growers ttliat wheat was not easily sold. While prices would be reasonable, there would be no fabulous prices. He was introducing a Bill to give them the world’s parity which may, or may not fall below the flat rate which he had suggested previously. The Executive of the Australian Labour Party recommended Government to buy wheat based on the cost of production for local consumption, and to obtain the best possible price for the exportable surplus. FINANCIAL. SYDNEY, Oct. 16. Daniel Hawkins, statistical officer of the Board of Trade at the forty-four hour inquiry stated the average production in New South Wales for the fijvc years 1009-13 was sixty-six million and in 1914-19 it wa§ fifty-eight million, has eel on the isame standard of value, but based on the present standard of value the production in 1919 totalled ninetyeight million, showing a decrease rn the purchasing power of the sovereign 'of .6. In tlie representatives an amendment to the Budget proposals was moved by Air McW-illiams, the Country Party Loader, and was defeated by 26 to 22, •the Labour and Country voting together. Four of the latter did not vote and twenty-two members paired. AIR HUGHES AS CRITIC. MELBOURNE, Oct. 10. Replying to a question regarding the newspaper announced that no Geneva Conference would be held, Air Hughes attacked the press, saying the first basic principle of mankind should be to disbelieve the papers. “The people writing these things” he declared, “don’t even know where Geneva is.” LABOR SELECTION. TENNIS. \ SYDNEY, Oct 17. In the Atetropolitan Tennis Championships singles, Rice defeated Neil 6-4, 6-4. In the doubles Pockley and Neil beat Gregg and Henderson 12-10, 10-8. In the ladies doubles, Mrs Fuller and Miss George beat Airs Ford and Mrs Henry 6-0, 6-2.
