A deputation from Canterbury waited on the Prime Minister to-day and urged the need for pushing on with the Hiley scheme for improving the railway facilities at Christchurch and Lyttelton. Mr Massey said that the shed at present under construction would be pushed ahead and the Hiley scheme gone on with. The scarcity of labour had been a drawback, but fortunately matters in this connection were improving, the Public Works returns showing 700 or 800 more men employed than was , the case a couple of months ago.
