TO THE ELECTORS OF THE SOUTHERN RIDING. ,A DIES AND GENTLEMEN, 'l' the request of many of the rateL payers, I have decided to become candidate at the forthcoming CounEleetion for the position of one of representatives of the Southern RidVlv long and continuous residence in > ‘Southern district has given me a ,rough knowledge of its resources d requirements. [ recognise that the competition ot > Otira. Tunnel joining Westland with nterbury makes it absolutely neces•y that a vigorous Public Works |joy by both Government and Counshould be undertaken in order that , remoter districts should receive the lest benefit from that work, rhe bridging of all rivers from the ft ilio South should be a cardinal feare in that policy. The extension of B Ross Railway and the improvement shipping facilites at Okarito, Bruce iy, Okuru and Jackson’s Bay are all cessarv for the development of the id timber and flax of South Westland. For many years I have taken a keen interest iii the development of that district and in this connection. I find that without some constituted standing individual effort has little or no effect. I do not seek election for personal aggrandisement or gain, but feel that I °should place the close and practical knowledge of the district what I possess at the services of the electors. If you do me the honour to elect me I shall use my best endeavours to assist the progress and development of South Westland on the lines indicated above. I have the honour to remain, Ladies and Gentlemen, Your obedient Servant, JOHN RITCHIE.
