The vessels under construptiqxi totalled 4,930,439 tons. Large vessels lost during the war have not yet been replaced. Hiere is a more urgent need for general cargo carriers, it being noted that in the number of large vessels, fifty-six under construction exceeding tea thousand tons, 426 ships aggregated 1,995,788 tons are to be fitted for burning oil fuel, compared with 211 ships of 1193, AO tons, a year ago. The total number of vessels now classed at Lloyds was as follows—British 5421, tonnage 12,885, 932, other countries 4166, tonnage 13,132,988. The figures in 1914 were British 6270: tonnage 13,782,899; other countries 4351 tonnage 10,087,765.
