SOME INTERESTING FIGURES. ’WELLINGTON, October 11. In his speech to-night on -<ir Geo. Hunter’s Gaming Bill, the Hon. G. J. Anderson quoted some interesting figures. The amount in stakes in 1918 was £383,070; last year it was £502,000. The tax on stakes in 191819 was £3830, last year it was £5022. The totalisntor investments for these years were £5,732,000, and £8,797,000 respectively. The 7] percentages retained by the clubs were £429,00 and £659,000. The Government taxes of 1] ipc(r cent, were £143,310 and £219,814, and the Government taxes on dividends £129,000 and £197,000 respectively. The fractions retained by clubs were for these years £27,457 and £42,068 respectively. After detailing the /number of racing days at present in existence in different districts, Mr Anderson said the sponsor of the Bill was proposing to place the Minister in charge of the permits in as difficult a position as ever he had been in. The Bill proposed to give 38 more days racing, while there were applications for 67 more days in hand from racing clubs trotting clubs and hunt clubs. Analysing the. present distribution of permits were distributed on a population basis, Auckland should have 74] days, or 24] more than at present. On a similar basis Hawke’s Bay should have 15] fewer days; Taranaki had 11] days and should have 14]; Greymouth had 24, and should have 14]; Canterbury bad 49 and should have 47; Dunedin had 50 and should have 48]. This was on the basis of 281 for the whole Dominion.
