I MONDAY OCTOBER 11th. The Committee met at 7.30 p.m. 'Present—Messrs W. 11. Shannon (Chairman), . J. Lloyd, A. Aitken, D. Stevenson, F. W. Feddersen, S. J. Preston, W. K. Richards and Rev. Purchas. The minutes were confirmed and out- ’ ward correspondencie . approved. inward correspondence. From Navy League asknnj he addressed on Nelson Day, October 21 in order to commemorate tlie occasion. ; —Received; referred to Chairman and Mr Preston to arrange. I From G. T. McCullough thanking , Committee for substantial support ■given to school football during the season.—Received. From Westland County Council asking for use of South- Spit school for County elections polling place in No-vember-Received ; .request granted. From Minister for 'Education, Welbiurtcu, stating he regretted the request for a grant for hostel at Hokitika could not be acceded to at present, owing to the number of claims for more important. requirements. From J. T. Mitchell, Christchurch, offering, pictures of the Prince of Wales and HALS'. Renown for sale.—Received. • ■ From Canterbury Education Board in reference to boarding allowance for chil—Received; referred to Rector. From Same stating no report bad yet been received from the Foreman on possibility of removing Dillmans school to Hokitika, stilting request for additional accommodation should have report of Inspector ; stating repairs at South Beach schood had been.authorised in .August;, notifying dairy science lectures at Hokitika, this .week for. some teachers; Mr Niven, Misses .Haycock and Dixon being selected. —Received; It was stated that Mr Niven .and. Miss Dixon had been granted leave of absence. Action approved. From Same asking when the Board, could expect the promised grant of £IOO -towards the erection of the shelter sheds.—Received; It was mentioned that the Committee had agreed to find £IOO towards the erection of tlic shelter sheds. The Board had agreed to erect the technical school and shelter sheds, but had only erected the technical school, the Committee expending the £IOO and subsidy of £IOO in the erection of shelter sheds.. It was resolved to furnish the Board with a; statement of the expenditure incurred. From tho Rector (Mr J. Brunton) reporting average attendance of 333 from roll number'of 369; stating the hot cocoa supply had been disconti.ii.u!cd mainly owing to shortage of sugar. (Purehas; seconded by Mr Aitken, not to close the School on Labor Day. ; The Visiting Committee (Messrs Ait-: ken and Lloyd) .reported two new blackboards were required and the fence
on the eastern side required staying and/a fence at the 'Rector’s residence required some attention.—Received and adopted. Small accounts were passed for payment. Messrs Fcddersen and Stevenson were appointed visitors for the month. Th t » Committee rose at 8,30 p.m.
