QUEENSLAND ELECTIONS. THE PROSPECTS. BRISBANE, Oct. 9. ' There are various cross-currents in connection with the Queensland general election. These make tho position Complicated. It is anticipated the Labour Government may retain a majority. Labour is likely to lose several seats. The anti-Labour forces consist of two parties. ABSENCE OF EXCITEMENT BRISBANE, Oct. 10. The Queensland State elections polling is being proceeded with. There is a total absence of excitement for which the closing of hotels is considered largely responsible. The figures so far are incomplete, but unfavourable for the Labour Party, showing a loss of several seats. A PECULIAR FATALITY. (Received this day at 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 11. A motor-car with a driver and six passengers ran off the punt at feackville. The passengers were extricated | from the sinking car, but the driver, I William Strickland, of Drummoynfe, j was drowned.
