[per press association .—copyright .) A BAD DISASTER, (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) PARIS, Oct. 10. The disaster to the Paris-Nuntes express was due to the breakdown of a gods engine, the driver of which was about to switch on to another track, and to warn officials at Haulles so as to enable the express, bound for Nantes to pass. Owing, however, to a declivity the heavily laden waggons advanced beyond the points and obstructed the main lino under a foot bridge. The driver of the express, seeing the danger applied the brakes and reversed the en- j gine, hut the speed was such and the | impact so terrific, that his engine and j tender climbed over the goods waggons, and capsized. The first two coaehesf buckled one on the other, and a third was lifted to a height of the loot bridge, which cut through the roof and made the result more appalling as the coaches like those of most suburban trains, had a covered upper deck for outside passengers. The train was crowded mostly with workers domiciles at Nantes. Six coaches were completely smashed. One crashed on top of the signal box, killing the signalman. 'Thir-ty-eight bodies have been brought to Paris for identification. TWENTY-SIX DEATHS. (Received This Day at 10.35. a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 10. Twenty-six were killed in the railway accident on the causeway at Venice, including the Deputy Socialist Bombacci. LITHUANIAN CAMPAIGN ENDS. LONDON, October 7. A Polish official message states that the Bolsheviks are retreating on the entire front.
