JOTTINGS FROM THE LOBBY

(Our Parliamentary Correspondent.) GETTING DECKS cleared. WELLINGTON, October 11. Parliament lias been working faster than the Law Drafting Department, J with the result that on Friday night the order paper of the House was almost cleared of important Government bills. The most important measure remaining was the Land and Income lax Bill, .which Mr Massey promised not to hurry until members had fully considered it. Probably it will not be considered in committee until Tuesday or Wednesday. BUTTER PRICE. Tlie Butter Committee is almost ready ‘to report. It will recommend, that farmers obtain the full export price. Government is likely to continue some subsidy so as to prevent the full increase reaching local consumers. The local retail price may be 2/6. THE GAMING BILL. Monday’s sitting will he occupied mainly with Mr Hunter’s Gaming ! Amendment Bill, which provides for 38 extra totalisator permits for country racing clubs, trotting clubs and hunt clubs. The question is a non-party hut it is sure to be vigorously opposed by anti-gamblers on both sides of the House, and as vigorously advocated by “the sports” on the Opposition as well as on the Government side. A late sitting may be expected. Even if the Bill passes the Lower House it is not at all certain that it will pass the Upper House.
