Lord Milner urged that cultural religious influences had an immense part in maintaining the Empire, and among thosle influences Judaism played no small pa(rt. , SUNDAY SCHOOL CONVENTION (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) TOKIO, Oct. 7. Delegates to the World’s Sunday School Convention held a prayer meeting, giving thanks for their escape from the fire. The Convention is meeting in the Y.M.C.A- Hall. Korean Chinese delegates are not attending, as a protest against the Japanese. THE JAP SITUATION. (Received this day at 11.30 a.m.) TOKIO, Oct. 7. The American Association at Tokio cabled a resolution to Mr Colby pointing out the intense feeling over the Californian situation that exists in Japan, and requesting the Government to find a fair solution. FINANCIAL CONFERENCE. (Received this day at 11.30 a.m.) BRUSSELS, Oct. 7. The Financial Conferences work lias been concentrated on four Commissions, which are expected to report at the week-end. It is believed the Conference will recommend the League of Nations to create machinery for the pro- { motion of International credits, and also to establish a permanent body to continue the Conference’s work. One outcome is that the - French and German delegates have opened direct conversations on the reparation question. The report circulated that one Commission desired the Conference to make a pronouncement in favour of free trade is denied.
