The weather was ideal for the second day of the Australian Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting. Over eighty thousand people were present, constituting a. record attendance. The course was in excellent condition. The New Zealand representatives’ star was in the ascendancy, Vespucci being the first to justify liis trip across the TJtstnan, although beaten by Erasmus. Persrore and Finmark commanded tremendous admiration in the Metropolitan Handicap, and j ustly so. Pershore received an ovation on weighing in.‘ The Steeples provided an exciting struggle, particularly as Tararu Jack ran wide under the judges’ stand, many thinking Taralie the winner. Red Cardinal in the Squatters’ Handicap was unable to overtake Daarewin, but finished gamely. The results are as follows:

CLIBBON STAKES,—Erasmus 1, Vespucci 2, Tick 3. Won by two lengths. Time 1.38 1-4.
METROPOLITAN HANDICAP—Pe,shore 1, Ecarte 2, Syce Knight 3. Won by 1) lengths. Time 2.44). ‘ STEEPLECHASE,—Tararu Jack 1, Taralie 2, Cerise Grey 3. Won by a long neck. Time 5.23 3-4. BREEDERS’ HANDICAP—Vaccine 1, Woorissa 2, Poptnvay 3. Won by two lengths. Time 1.1 3-4. SQUATTERS’ HANDICAP,-Daare-win 1, Red Cardinal 2, Sylvifort 3. (Eleven started. V/on by 1 1-4 lengths. Time 2.22).
