SEAMEN’S MEETING
(Received This Day at 12.20 p.m.)
MELBOURNE, Oct. 5. In accordance with the direction of the Seamen’s Union Executive, a stopwork meeting of seamen was held to hear the report of the delegates who nd been attending the conference of Transport Workers Federation in Sydney. They explained that trouble occurred over the internal management of the organisation and Mr Murray (President) had resigned. An investigation of matters was proceeding. They also explained proposals of the transport workers to link up with the seamen, waterside workers, coalminers and other unions, making the membership of the new organisation close on forty thousand.
It is understood a resolution was adopted assuring the Transport Workers’ Federation of the seamen’s willingness to 00-operate.
.At the close of the meeting the seamen returned to their ships.
