INTERNAL RUSSIA.
[LONDON TIMES SERVICE—COP t'HXGHTj AN ’ARMISTICE. (Received this day at 12.25 p.m) ri. 'WARSAW, October 4. A Polish-Idfcuanian armistice ha* been coneluded. The demarcation lino is not yet known. u IN RED RUSSIA. THE BOLSHEVIK DANGER. (Received This Day at 12.25 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 4.
The “Manchester Guardian’s” special correspondent recently in Moscow, telegraphs from- Riga confirmation of numberless direct reports that Bolshevism has reached a most extreme crisis. An-to-Bolshevist activiies in Petrograd with the assassination of Commissiaries, reflect the temper of the country. The Polish war, from being at first a popular war, in modern Russia has become unpopular. The people want peace at any price. It is a terrible winter, with a famine as severe as in 1892, but on a wider scale, amidst a population exhausted ;• •by war, and starvation threatens to be a dreadful horror, if General Wrangel succeeds in cutting off supplies from the south-east. Thus the Bolshevist strategy is to permit the Polish advance to spend itself in the devastated north, whilst the Bolsheviks are concentrating their forces a gains ‘Wrangel. Meanwhile the terror directed from Moscow, is intensified. Much depends whether the secret police and senior officers of the airmy, who have long accepted the Bolshevist regime as a temporary Government only, will think the time has come to dislocate it.
