COAL AT KOITERRANGI
The settlers interested in the coal seams at Mt Koiterangi have been, carrying on prospecting operations lately, Mr I). Cullen, an experienced miner, being in charge. The work performed has been in the nature of further exploration down the- face of the terrace seeking for fresh traces. A good deal of the overgrowth has been cleared and; yesterday a well defined seam of coiil, nine or ten feet in depth has been revealed. The seam consists of seven or eight feet of good black coal, ajnd the discoverers are quite impressed with the find. The suggestion for further prospecting has been well demonstrated, and the work is to be continued. The coal seam has a dip towards the limestone country, being worked at present by the A. and P. Association within their endowment reservation. The discovery has given great satisfaction to the settlers of the district, and no doubt they will be encouraged now to give the field a thorough test.
