The monthly meeting of the Westland Chamber of Commerce will take place at the County Chambers at 7.30 o’clock this, evening. A full attendance of members is invited.
Complete arrangements have been made for the hall in the Public Hall, Itimu, to-morrow (Wednesday) evening in aid of the funds of Westland Hospital. The music is in the capable bands of Mr A. Lawn. A very large attendance is oxpected.
The Hon W. Nosworthy, Minister of Agriculture, in reply to a suggestion by Mr Hudson, M.P. for Motueka, for the establishment of an experimental farm in the Karamea Valley, writes Mr Hudson: “It is found quite impossible for the Government to entertain more than a very few of the applications it has* received for experimental faims throughout the Dominion, as these institutions are neeessarly costly to establish, and in view of the fact that a farm lias recently been asquired on the West Coast, at Waimanga, in the Grey Valley, and is being brought into operation during the present season, I regret that no further proposals for the establishment of such farms on the West Coast can he acceded to at pre-, sent.”

The Fire Brigade hold the usual practice to-night at 8 o’clock. Notice of two red cows impounded at Ross appears in tins issue. Mr Hamar has been in London of recent years connected with the High Commissioner’s Office, hut lately left the Government, land is now interested in mining affairs. To-morrow (Wednesday) evening at St Mary’s Club rooms a special euchre tournament and dance will he held in aid of the Hospital Building Fund. Valuable prizes have been donated consisting of a large bottle of scent for the winning lady and a valuable hair brush for the first gent’s prize, the second prizes are also of a useful order. Good music has been arranged for. As there is every indication of a large attendance the committee respectfully beg to remind the ladies to kindly bring along a plate.—Advt.
The annual meeting of the No 2 Westland Industrial Building Society took place at the Secretary’s Office last evening, Mi* D. J- Evans being in tho Ichair. Messrs J. J. Breeze and C. Evans (retiring directors) were re-elect-ed, fis also Mr J. H. Wilson, auditor. Jt was announced a sale of £3OO would take place next Saturday week. Before closing a special vote of thanks was accorded the Secretary (Mr Jeffries), and office staff for the care and attention devoted to the ajffairs of the Society during the year, and the work done was highly appreciated. Mr Jeffries $n acknowledging the vote said the Society was in a very satisfactory position, and the business was working very smootliily.

At Kanferi Public Hall recently the residents of Kanieri took the occasion to farewell Mr and Mrs W. H. Burrowes and family on the eve o their leaving for their new location, Christchurch. Mr T. Chestennan M.C.C. occupied the chair and m a happy speech expressed regret at the approaching departure of Mr and Mrs Burrowes from the district where they had resided for so many years. Reference was made to the large family re; red and that two sons bad gone to the war, where the eldest had laid dowii his life. Reference was also made to Mr Burrowes connection with business, farming and sport and f ni at tnc request of the Chairman, Mrs Staines senr. handed a present to each of the guests as a memento of their stay in district. Mr Burrowes suitably replied and reciprocated the good wishes expressed towards his family and himself.
