(Reuter’s Telegram.) REPRISALS IN IRELAND.
LONDON, September 30
i Referring to tho police murder i'e , prisals in Ireland the Chief Secretary for Ireland, Sir H. Greenwood, deprecated criticism i|n an address to a number of members of the Royal Irish Constabulary. Sir Hamar Greenwood said that the British Government was behind the Irish police. He declared the newspapers had greatly exaggerated the reprisals. Many of the reprisals were he claimed, acts of self-defence. Undoubtedly, he admitted, there have been some unjustifiable police acts. Regarding these an enquiry would be made. He appealed to the police to jnaintaini discipline. Heretofore they were distinguished for discipline. Regarding the reprisals in Ireland, the "police head, Sir N. Macßeady, has been summoned to London to consult with the Cabinet to-day regarding tli t . situation, but particularly the police reprisals.
