ROSS BOROUGH COUNCIL,
The ordinary meeting of the Borough Council took place on Tuesday evening. Present,—Mr M. H. Linstrom, (Deputy Mayor in the chair); Councillors, N. J. Phillips, A. W. Upjohn, F. Moore J. Minehan and H. McMullan.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and outward correspondence read and approved.
INWARD CORRESPONDENCE
From Crowley and Co. asking for authority to make connection with water main for the purpose of driving a pelton wheel.—Received; request granted at a charge of £2 10s per annum.
From Wailii Borough Council asking this Council to operate with the view of urging the Government to take immediate steps to reduce the cost of living.—Received. From Auckland City Council re the Land and Income Tax Amendment now before Parliament.—Received.
From T. E. Y. Seddon Esq., re Greymouli Harbour Board Bill, promising to forward copy as soon as possible.—Received. 4 From Westland Branch, Canterbury Progress League soliciting financial assistance towards paying car hire in connection with the recent visit of Canterbury members. —Received; resolved td vote £5.
From Janies Jones, lessee of Borough Reserve, suggesting area should he drained.—Received. Referred to Reserves Committee to report on for next meeting of the Council. From Ross Lime Coy applying for permit to build motor lorry shed.—Received and request granted. The matter of arranging for a larger Water supply for the Borough was referred to the Public Works Committee to report on at next meeting.
The Reserves Committee were authorised to have a number of ornamental trees refenced.
It was resolved to take steps to abate the wandering cattle nuisance in the Borough.
The Finance Committee presented accounts to the amount of £66 Is 6d, Which were passed for payment.
Applications for the position of maintenance man for the ensuing twelve months were received from J. Jones, J. Ableson and C. Upjohn. The number was reduced to two by ballot. Result; — Jones 5, Ableson 4, Upjohn 3. A final ballot resulted Ableson 4, Jones 2. J. Ableson was then appointed. Tenders were received for the five years lease of the following areas. Reserve 310, (about 5 acres) J. Minehan, £l2 per year; W. Detlaff, £ll 14s. The highest tender was accepted, (previous rental was £lO 10s per year). Pound Reserve (about 2 acres), TV. Detlaff £8 5s 6(1; H .McMull an, £q Is 6d; A. Hedwig £4 2s; F. Moore £3 10s 6d.’ Mr Detlaff’s tender was accepted. (Previous rental was £3 Is per year). Rubbish Reserve, F. Moore £3 per year; F. Mitchell £2; J. Manern £1 12s. ' F. Moore’s tender was accepted. (Previous rental was £1 6s). The Council rose at 9.50 p.m.
