A meeting of the Hokitika Boxing Association was held on Monday evening Mr F. McGregor presiding over a good attendance of members. Arrangements for the tournament to he held oil Saturday October 6th. were completed and the" programme was approved and ordered to be circulated. The following new members were elected—Messrs W Yarrall, R. Davies, J. L. Fowler, and J. W. Kelly. An application for support by the Grey Boxing Association to the movement to urge the removal of the disqualification of Clabby by the Wanganui Association was received, but it was resolved to take no action in the matter as the full facts were not available. H.M. sloop Veronica, arrived at Auckland from Britain via Torres Strnitn and Sidney on Sunday. The Veronica was formerly used as a minesweeojr and will, in due course, form a unit of the Dominion navy. She is at present . undfer the Imperial Government cn has been sent out to New Zealand u> carry out naval, duties on behalf of t ll Admiralty. Her commission at present , is for two years, but it is probable that it will be extended to three years. 1 Since concluding her mine-sweeping duties, the Veronica has undergone a i thorough overhaul, and is in exceß *nt 'condition. All her mine-sweeping gear has been removed and she has been rearmed with 4 2in. guns. She is similar in design to the mineswvq>'’rs. Geranium, Mallow, and Marguerite which visited New Zealand last year. The sloop will remain in Auckland for about ten days, and will then proceed to the Western Pacific Islands. Commander F. H - L.
