The funeral of the late Mr M. Rockford took place yesterday morning, there being many friends present from Greymouth, Kumara and adjacent places. The services at St Mary’s Church and the graveside were conducted by Rev Father O’Sullivan, many wreaths being being placed on the grave. Last evening’s train to Greymouth from Hokitika did not arrive there till 9 o’clock, being a couple of hours late, as the result of the locomotive (W.A. 289) breaking down. The mishap was due to the slide valve in one of the cylinders becoming displaced, either by accident to the link motion or some other cause. It was stated this locomotive had been only a short time ago overhauled at the workshops. After the train left Kumara last night it became evident she was weak, only one cylinder giving any power, and some trucks of timber had to bo left at a siding. After pulling up atj Gladstone Siding, the train could not fie restarted. . The passengers were treated to a series of jolts as the locomotive balked at starting, and finally it was found necessary to telephone to Greymouth for a now engine. There were a fair number of passengers aboard the train \\lu> had to make the best of the delay, when they reached Greymouth at 9 o clock.
