FATAL TRAP ACCIDENT.
WELLINGTON, Sept. 27
By a trap accident on Mungaroa hill, Hutt Valley, Mary Agnes Whiteman, a daughter of Edward Whiteman of Mungaroa, was killed. The horse shied and capsized the vehicle over an embankment. Deceased’s neck was luoke». A sister escaped.
THEFT OF £3OO. WELLINGTON, Sept. 27
The sum of £3OO in notes, was stolen from a boarding-house in Willis Street last week, while the owner was in his bathroom. It was found that some of them had been circulated in Petone and this clue was followed to Auckland where Robert Burgess was arrested and charged. £IBO in notes were found on him.
MOANA HELD UP
WELLINGTON, Sept. 27
The Moana is still in the harbour. The cook s’-and stewards stood by the cook and the Company did not discharge him, with the result that 11 firemen”and 9 trimmers thereupon signed off. The seamens’ union endeavoured to replace them, hut it is alleged picket ing was resorted to and the effort was a failure.
' GENT ART AN’S DEATH. NELSON, September 27. Appo Hocton! who recently celebrated his 100th birthday, has died at Dovedale He was one of Nelson’s earliest settlers arriving in 1842. He first lived in the city, but for over 40 years had been farming at Dovedale. INJURED. GISBORNE, Sept. 27. Bertie Athol Rhodes, aged 27, single, who was injured in a collision between a motor cycle and a motor car on Thursday died in the hospital on Sunday. HUNTLY MEN RESUME. AUCKLAND, September 27. The men employed at Huntly and Rotomaru collieries resumed this morning. Hie Pukemaro men remain out owing to a new dispute with the company which insists on firemen being members of the Miners Union. .
