Mr McGregor said if the Department catered for the, travelling public better, there, would be more use .made pf/the railway.., From Westland County Council,.drawing attention, to the habit of persons from within the Borough only indifferently burying dead animals in the County on the north of the Borough boundary., and raising objection to the objectionable of depositing niglit soil along the beach in the same vicinity; and asking that steps be taken to have, the objectjonable practices, stopped.—Received. The Mayor moved that the Council, endeavour to remedy the nuisance, complained.of,ps pinch as possible. Seconded by Mr ,Parkhill, who said the complaints made were fully warranted. The motion was agreed to.

From .Kanieri Sawmill Coy,, stating that as the R'aihvay Department had refused to giye a siding access, in Weld Street, they would not have.any use for reserve 445; and therefore they did not intend to take up the option.—Received.

A discussion took place as to calling for tenders for the lease.of the reserve. There were suggestions for a,lease far 5 years and to lease for ten years. The Mayor then suggested , that consideration he given to the possibility of utilising the reserve as building sections, which would be more remunerative to the Council, while,good sections; oould be leased for about £3 per annum. After discussion the matter was referred to the Finance Committee to report at next meeting. It was stated that the present lease had now expired and authority was. given to the present user of the reserve to continue in occupation until a. course of action was decided upon. In connection with the deposit of £lO made by Kanicri Sawmill Coy. it was resolved to with-hold the amount of costs involved in connection therewith. -

From State Advances Office, in regard to rates owing oh properties ton which they had mortgages and stating that the rates would he paid by-them —Received. * . , From Mrs I. From Druids’ Lodge complaining of manner in which the, Lodge room had been opened without permission.-Re-ceived. Seconded by Mr Wood and carried Mr' Parkhill drew attention to., tie footpath and an electric light pole at % corner of Hampden and Fitzherbert streets.' ft was resolved to authorise the repair of the footpath m the vicinityThe Council rose at 8.30 pmi.
