THE COAL SITUATION
‘AUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CARLS ASSOCIATION]
STRIKE POSSIBILITES. LONDON, Sept. 23. It is unofficially stated that the coal miners’ delegates voted against any fresh ballot bn the question'op striking. The ballot has already given more than necessary strike majority. The voting was: For a second ballot, 360; again, 545. It is stated Mr R. Sraillie strongly advocated the affirmative, and it is reported lie even threatened to ifefsign from the Executive if the waly were blocked to a conciliatory settlement, but the other leaders dissuaded him. It is asserted tha the protracted character of the Triple Alliance’s proceedings is due to some strong aversion of the raihvaymen and transporters to engaging in a sympathetic strike with the miners. It is suggested that they may yet induce the miners to consent to a second ballot ~which is designed to possibly delay a Btrike.
PLANS FOR STRIKE. LONDON, Sept 24. The Triple Alliance sat the whole evening. It is reported they discussed the question of direct action being taken by the railwaymen and the transporters. The miners'claimed the position was unaltered by the intervention of the Premier. They eventually adjourned until tomorrow. The Alliance is apparently discussing whether the railwaymen and transport workers will give the miners active or only moral support. - STRIKE (Received This Day at 8.4(r a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 24. -The miners have postponed the threatened strike for a week.
