• LLOYD GEORGE’S PROPOSALS. fAUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CAULK ASSOCIATION] (Received tins day at 10.35 a.m.) LONDON September 23. The Triple Alliance deputation included the Miners Executive. Mr J. H. Thomas and Cramp oil behalf of the railwayman and Messrs Williams and Gosling for the transporters. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Sir R. Horne, Sir E. Geddes and David Shakletoni.
The official report shows the representatives of the railway men and transport workqrs warmly supported the miners wages claim. i Hon. Lloyd George insister that if the miners persisted in their demand for increased wages, that the demand must be submitted to a tribunal whose impartiality the miners could not challenge, but he proposed as an alternative that the mine owners meet and agree on a scheme which would make an increase of wages dependent on an increase of output. Ho suggested that the level of output be fixed, and that all output above this level involve an extira remuneration. This level might even be fixed below the present output, thus assuring a certain increase in wages immediately, Government were prepared to make this concession in view of the advantage to the country of securing a relation between wages and output Hon. Lloyd George urges the miners to suspend the strike notice for a week or a fortnight while they examined, with the mineowners, the. feasibility of the plan. The miners still urged an immediate advance of 2/- but subsequently the conference deliberated privately /on tjie new situation created.

It is
