After hearing Mr Robert Smillies’ announcement that the Executive of the Coal Miners’ Federation did not consider that the negotiations with the Government revealed any justification for the prevention of a strike, the Miners’ Conference adjourned to enable the different sections to discuss the situation. COAL MINERS CONFER, WELLINGTON, Sept. 22
The Executive of the Miners’ Federation sat again all day to-day discussing the strike at the Waikato Coal Mines. Mr J. Arbuckle, Secretary of the Federation, stated to a reporter that up to the present he had nothing to report. There are possibilities of the Coal miners throughout the Dominion becoming involved if the strike at Pukemiro and Rotowaru is not settled as Mr Arbuckle stated a few days ago that tbo men in other mines had pledged themselves to stand by the members of the Huntly Union, If no agreement is reached soon regarding the dispute m the North, it is feared that the position generally will become serious.
