LATE LOCALS.
At the inquest on the body of a Chinaman named Sue Jim, a rabbiter, who was found dead in his hut at Blackball in the Ranfurly district, on Saturday )ast,_ the coroner’s verdict was that deceased died at his hut on or about September 12th, and that the cause of death was apoplexy caused by a rupture of a diseased blood vessel in the brain.
The funeral of the late Charles Joseph Stubbs took pi ice at Greymouth on Tuesday, and despite the inclement weather conditions was largely attended. The deceased was accorded full military honours, the local Returned Soldiers’ Association supplying a firing party and a large number of members being present. The Citizens’ Band. ren-. dered the “Dead March” in Saul. The services at Trinity Church and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev Canon Carr. Mr Alan McMasters sounded the “Last Post.” The Secretary of the, Wfeat Coast Timber Workers’ Union has been informed that the Board of Trade has authorised an increase in the price of sawn timber of one penny per 100 feet for the purpose of a subsidy towards sick and accident fund now being established by the ' Westland Timber Workers’ Union. Members of the Union are to pay 25s per annum towards the fund, which is to provide #1 per week accident pay nod £2 per week sick pay. It is expected that the new rate will come into force on November Ist,
