FACING NEWS.
fAUSTRALIAN & N.Z. OABT/F ABSOCIATTOn] LONDON, Sept. 18. The “Evening Standard” urges Jockey Clubs to enforce the new rule substituting sweepstakes for' the old fashioned plates, and points out races for the 1921-23 seasons are closing under the old conditions. At the recent Doncaster Meeting'the value of the stakes was £18,900 and it cost the Doncaster Executive only £7409 for the year’s racing. The Executive gave very little to the 'St Ledger in which the owners raced for their own money. Only after press agitation had the Executive guaranteed a fixed sum. It will be scandalous, says the paper, if Doncaster races in 1921 arc run under the old conditions. It is reported that Steve Donoglme has been offered a huge fee to ride in India, in the winter. Donoglme is undecided whether accept or not.
