St Paul's Methodist Sunday School Concert.
It was a glorious ‘Hokitika day i.n Wednesday, and continued riglit on to the evening as the children' and- tlie grown ups wended their way to St. Paul’s School-room. It was the children’s night and they were right’ out to give their seniors a real good time. They had a full house and so. much ho that extra seats had to be secured. Not only a packed audience, but a very appreciative oiie. The concert was given by the scholars, apart from a pianofore -solo, Master. JS. GoodfelloW; Duet Misses Perry and Knight; Solo Miss Knight and a solo Miss Perry. Minster Jack Johnstone presided in a very able manner. The children sang hymns' 26;' 80, 102 and 06 from the new Methodist Sunday School ITymnal. The* opening’ item an acrostic “Weldoriie”' was rendered by the Misses Freitas, Eileen and Marjory Clements, and Masters Gordon Oliver," Clifford, Jack and Frank Freitas. Then recitations were given—“Stop, Stop, Pretty Water,” 'Miss'Hazel Perry. “Fido’s Lesson,” Miss Valinai De La Mare; “Ships,” Master Frank Johnston; “Susie’s Mistake”, Miss Iris Feddersen ;• “Bruce and' the Spider. Miss Melba Gibbons; “Sleep, Buriy 'Sleep,” Miss Dell Raine; “On Guard”, Miss Milicent Wild; “Grow arid Scare Crow,” Miss Norma Gibbons; “The World’s Music,” Miss Jean Duff • “Tent--penance Billy” Master Keith Perry; and a dialogue “The Afternoon Call”; Misses-Jean Duff and Hazel Perry. Miss Mildred Carter made a splendid plea for a collection in her recitation “Take ,up the Collection” which was smartly done by Master Eric Raine, while the children sang “Hear the Pennies Drooping-’; Last item, the acrostic “Goodbye,” Misses Norma Gibbons, Milicent Wild, Dell Raine, Eileen Clements and Masters Gordon Oliver and Ronald Ole-
monts. Master Frank Johnstone on behalf of tho teachers aiid scholars made a presentation as a ihark of appreciation to Miss Reynolds for her long and faithful services. Mr Bridgman listributod tho prizes—each child receiving a. book. Mr Ruff spoke kindly and helpful words to tho teachers of tho school also to Miss Reynolds, Miss Duff and Miss Walker who had trained the children for the musical items and to Mrs Bridgman who had trained them in their elocutionary items. He also proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman, Master Jack Johnstone. Afte: partaking of a dainty supper all went home feeling they had had a very pleasant liiglit out.
