STAFFORD NEWS.

1 (Our own correspondent.) In a few days time this old township will suffer a severe loss by the departure of Mr and Mrs Carroll, to the Gisborne district. During Mr and Mrs Carroll’s residence here they have endeared themselves to the people, young and old, by their kindly dispositions and gentle at- : tention to the sick, distressed and infirm ; and in freely giving their services to all charitable, social, and other affairs for the good and welfare of the district, especially their services in organising and carrying out* those successful gatherings held to farewell and welcome home our Soldiers during the war period. In carrying out his public duties, Mr Carroll has been courteous and kind, and is held in regard and respect by everyone. The aged and infirm have been tenderly cared for by Mr Carroll. First aid rendered by him, in cases of accident, and their removal to a doctor or the hospital tenderly made.

Mrs Carroll has been unceasing in her attention to our sick women, and many are the\ grateful hearts who remember her goodness to them when lying on the bed of sickness, soothed by her gentle ministrations. All unite in earnest wishes for tho future welfare, health and happiness of our departing frionds. Further trusting that Mr Carroll’s health may be fully restored in the warmer and dryer part of the North Island to which lie and his wife are proceeding; and that further promotion may soon be awarded him. A farewell social and dance will be tendered Mr and Mrs Carroll at Turner’s Hall on Monday evening the 20tli inst.
