A CO-OP (i R AT: VE CONTE Y T WELLINGTON,, Sept. 15. Some amusement was cause i in the House by a question put by Mr Jones (Ivaiapoi) to the Minister for Labour, relating to a proposal of Wellington City Council to grant a contract to Robert Semple, a. Labour leader, and ex-Labour member, for the cutting of Orango Orango tunnel, under the cooperative system. The men are. to be provided from striking, said Mr Jones. ]’f they strike they lose all their benefits under the contract. If they leave work without a doctor’s certificate on account of sickness, they arc to lose any share of the profits. Is this system of indentured labour in order in this free and enlightened country.
