MR ATMORE AND Mil, HOLLAND,
There was a sharp exchange of backhanded compliments in the House on Friday afternoon between the Leader of the Labour Party and the member for Nelson (Mr Atmore). Air Sidey bad moved an amendment on the Education Estimates as an indication that the Government should not go outside Now Zealand for a Director of Education. Mr M’Combs asked how many members of tlie Parliament were New Zealand horn. If they applied this same principle to Parliament there would be very, few of them there, and, moreover, Mr Sidcy’s idea would be the means of blocking many men who were at present in the Department. Mr Atmore, who spoke later, said those who were opposing the amendment were not loyal to their country. IB was here that Mr Holland interjected. He asked if Mr Atmore was Now Zealand horn. “I am New Ze'aland born,” said Mr Atmore, emphatically. “That’s unfortunate for New Zealand,” retorted Mr Holland.
