HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE
The Committee met last evening at 7.30 o’clock. Present: —Messrs Aitken (voted-to the chair), Lloyd, Richards, Preston (hon. sec.) Feddersen, Bruce, Stevenson and Rev Purchns. An apology was made for the absence of the Chairman. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Canterbury Education Board, re allowance for conveyance of children by coach or motor, asking particulars of scholars attending High School conveyed from a distance. —Received; particulars to lie sent and recommendation to be made for an increase on present fares. From Same, forwarding Inspector’s report on South Spit school.—Received as very satisfactory.
From Miss Dixon, teacher ' South Spit, reporting the average attendance bad been boys 6.6, girls 7.3, a total of 13.9 out of roll number of 17; stating the repairs to the woodshed had not been commenced. —Received. It was resolved to write to the Board, asking for attention.
From Rector (Mr J. Brunton), reporting attendance for the three weeks since the opening had been primary 286, secondary 45, total of 331, out of a roll number 370; reporting results of school’s .. football .matches.—Received. Mr Stevenson moved that the boys be congratulated on their success, and also . their coach (Mr McCullough.) .—Seconded hv Mr Preston and carried. The Visiting Committee (Messrs Pur-, elms and Richards) reported in favor of the erection of a shelter for bicycles'; that St. V and VI were still overcrqiyd-. ed, and. drawing attention to some minor requirements, including repairs to yea retaker’s cottage.—Received. Messrs Aitken and Lloyd, were appointed visitors for next period. .. ... ■- The. appointment of,, a- secretary wps. agreed to subject to the High School Board finding the salary. xv.iv r, Accounts, were passed for payment totalling £l4. j The Committee then rose.
