SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS
'v"'.;, , _ (Otir Parliamentary Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 14. The extension of the Benefits 'of the Repatriation Act and Disabled 'SoldiOfs Settlement Act to veterans of the South African war was urged in the House by Mr Cfkigie (Tinhirtt) . who said that these men ought to share the •'privileges accorded to men who fought in the recent war. He felt sure that the return-: ed soldiers would approve of the concession to men who had served the conn- • try well twenty years ago. ! Mr Seddo’n (Westland) supported 'the plea, ahd suggested that the question should be referred to the’Defence Committee of the House.
Hon Guthrie, in reply, said that he believed tlie right thing was to . give* preference to the men who fought in the recent war, and directly, they had been provided for, he would bo prepared to extend the benefits of the present legislation to South African veterans.
