An information was laid against a defendant. (Mr'Murdoch) for upkeep of a relative in a Mental Hospital. After ■hearing evidence an offer for payment of 10s per week was accepted, and an order made accordingly. On charges of being found on licensed premises (Greymound Hotel, Arahura) during prohibited hours, two offenders were convicted and fined 20s and costs 7s each. Police v. J. Y. Hall (Mr Sellers) a charge of the licensee of Occidental Hotel selling .liquor during .prohibited 'hours; also a charge against Mrs Hall of supplying liquor during prohibited hours; A plea of not guilty was entered, and it was agreed to bear the two charges together. After bearing the opening statement of Sergeant McCarthy, Mr-Sellers withdrew the plea, of not guilty and pleaded guilty, gen-; erally agreeing to-the statement-of the police. ' His Worship said Mrs Hall may have made a mistake in thinking the, persons were boarders, but it appeared there was a slipshod manner of management. He pointed out"'that a person to be regarded ns a lodger is one who is living and staying on the premises. The Magistrate convicted the licensee and fined him £5 arid costs 7s. The charge against ‘Mrs 'Hall was withdrawn by leave. i
The Police charged two men with being on licensed premises (Occidental Hotel) during prohibited hours, who did not appear. Convicted and fined 40s and costs 7s each.
