CEMENT SUPPLY
THE PRESENT STRINGENCY
The Board of Trade advised the County Clerk of the causes affecting the present stringency in the cement supply as follows: „ Prior to the receipt of yours of' the 27th ultimo I had already telegraphed to the County Chairman advising that arrangements had been made to allocate 10 tons of cement from Golden Bay to Hokitika and district through Messrs Mark Sprot and Company, Grey mouth. Immediately upon receipt of the Chairman’s telegram I got into communication with the Portland Cement Company with a view to arranging for some supplies'from that company for Hokitika, but unfortunately the position at the present time would not permit of any such shipment being made. As a matter of fact, owing to the failure of coal supplies, the Portland Works have been compelled to cease operations, and it is improbable Hint any cement will be produced mu til next week, while the Company’s stocks are completely exhausted. As this source of supply had failed, I then got into communication with the Goldcn Bay Company and found that arrangements were being made for a small shipment to be forwarded to Messrs Mark Sprot and Coy. Greymouth ,by early steamer. At the request of tho Board instructions were issued to this firm that out of this shipment 10 tons should he allocated to Hokitika and district. It is recognised that this quantity will not be sufficent to meet the demands of the district, but unfortunately it is not possible at the present time to provide further supplies. The Board tlierfore trusts that the best possible use will bo made of this small allotment and that the distribution will take place wholly on the basis of the essential nature .of the work special consideration' being given to the requirements of dairy factories and dwellings. ...... The requirements of the district will be kept before the Cement Companies and whenever possible further supplies will he provided.—(Signed) J. W. COLLINS, Secretary Board of Trade.
A BOLD ASSERTION, It is an old saying that “familiarity breeds contempt”—lots of truth in it too. A good fellow always “wears well,” and so it is with many things in everyday life. The good things wear well; they lust, increase in popularity. Praise must he earned, and praise for Doan’s Backache Kidney Pills has been justly ''earned in New Zealand. Year after year their good work lias continued, until there are few householders not familiar with the name of Doan. It’s a bold assertion to make that nothing in : modern medicine can show such a record. But the proof of it lies in the endorsement of people we know.- Here’s a ease:—
Mrs H. Dalkie, 172 Queen Street, Westport, says —“It is in the hope that kidney sufferers may benefit by my experience that I give this testimonial for Doan’s Backache Pills, and I trust it will be the means of .bringing relief to many. As tile result of a cold settling on my kidneys, I was a great sufferer from backache, urinary trouble, and dizzy attacks for some time, besides always being tired and done up. My back was very painful, and I could not stoop or move quickly without enduring torture. A strong recommendation in favour of Doan’s Backache Kidney Pills led me to try this remedy, and I am delighted I did, for five bottles cured me twelve months ago, and I have been in a healthy state ever since.” Six years later Mrs Dalkie says:—“l have .had no return of kidney trouble since Doan’s Backache Kidney Pills cured me seven years ago, a fact that speaks well for this grand remedy.”
Doan’s Backache Kidney Pills are sold by all chemists and store-keepers at 3s per bottle, or will he posted on receipt of price by Foster-McClellan Co., 15 Hamilton Street, Sydney. But, be sure you get DOAN’S.
