i OBITUARY. 1 CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 6. MJr Albert- Kaye, the well-known Christchurch business man, died in Byd. ney this morning. Mr Kaye was prominently associated with the public lift ofof Canterbury, and had served on many public bodies. He was the principal of the firm of Kaye and Carter, shipping, grain, and seed merchants. A SUDDEN END. WANGANUI, Sept, 7. An old man, arrested last night and charged with theft of garden tools, died suddenly at the lock-up this morning. His name is at present unknown. There is a large scar On his forehead, and another on the cheek. He sold the tools to a second hand dealer under the name of Albert Jones of Kent Terrace.

A PROTEST. WELLINGTON, Sept. 7

Whakatane School Committee has resolved to protest against the Legislature empowering Medical inspectors to compel parents to provide tlia treatment recommended. It was contended that the law would be incomplete, unless the cost of such treatment were defrayed by the State. The proposal harshly penalized family men, many of ivliom are unable to pay an expensive medical fee. It was also contended that the State, which took youths compulsorily during war-time, should not dodge the responsibility of raising them physically fit.
