AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION

WESTLAND BRANCH

The annual meeting of the above was held in the County Chambers at 8 p.m. on Saturday. There were present Messrs G. Davidson (Chairman), Seale, Williams, -Mclntosh, Stuart, Simpson, Bassett and Perham. Mr Richards also attended on behalf of the Publishing Firm, Messrs Andrews, Baty and Co. ■ Ltd., Christchurch.

The minutes of. the . previous meeting were read and confirmed; also a large quantity of outward and inward corres pondence dealt with. It was a recommendation of the meeting that the lion Mr Coates, Minister of Public Works, be communicated with thanking him for bis prompt attention in having the bridging of rivers and streams on the Otira-Kumara road and also South Westland roads proceeded with, as it was felt that after Mr Coates’ visit to the district and he had seen the absolute necessity for the work, that matters were put in hand immediately, and the work gone on with. It was also resolved that the Secretary write the Ross Borough Council drawing their attention to the state of the South road on the south side in the Ross Borough, and to point out it* would be most advisable now to have that portion of the road made again on its original route on the flat below, and to inquire whether the Ross Borough would support the proposal. As it was understood by the meeting that £IOO had been granted by the Government to keep that part of the road in repair the Secretary was also instructed to inquire of the Ross Borough if all that sum or how much had been expended on repairs on that portion of the road, as it was considered if the sum mentioned was expended it was insufficient, and further provision should bo made. !

The election of officers for the ensuing year was made as follows: —Mr G. Davidson Chairman; Mr,Seale, Treasurer; Mr Perliam, Secretary; Committee: Messrs Simpson, Bassett, Williams, Mclntosh, Ford. Stuart, and Dr Teiclielmann. Mr C. M. Malfroy was appointed to act as Christchurch delegate to the Association.

After the matter of finance was gone into, the meeting terminated at 10.15 p.m.
