Lee and Skeet played a hold, forcing game, though the howling ( was never loose. Middlesex scored 100 before lunch without loss, hut there was ' a slump after the first wicket fell for 208. Lee made 108 and Skeet 108. ‘ Henrne and Hendrcn made immediate ’ attacks on Surrey’s howling, but their 1 impetuosity quickly cost them their 1 wickets. Warner and Stevens stayed ’ the rot. Middlesex “declared” at seven t for 316, leaving Surrey three hours in ' which to make the 243 runs required to win. Sandham alone was confident, and c sepred 68. Surrey’s innings closed foi 188. Stevens took five for 61, and 1 Hearne three for 37. Warner had a great reception,. the r crowds shouldering Jiim to tjiq pavilion. s It wa;s a brilliant end to his career.
