FAVOUR DIRECT ACTION. By Electric Telegraph—Copyright./ LONDON, Sept. 1. Regarding the strike possibility, the. manufacturers all over England, replying to their National Union of Manufacturers’ circular, say they unanimous-, ly favour a “close down” policy in the event of the coal strike eventuating. The same Union promises the Government to give whole-hearted support in thwarting the workers, regardless of immediate consequences, provided that the Government will eventually concede everything, that is demanded*, as, it is contended, they did in the case of the late big railway strike. A STRIKE INOPPORTUNE. LONDON, Sept. 1. A prominent member of the South Wales Miners’ Executive states: "A strike would ruin us as an organisation and undo all we have accomplished. Undoubtedly we should be hopelessly divided, as throughout the country miners would strike without the unity which is essential to success. A fortnight’s strike would deplete the funds of the Federation completely,: “I can’t 0011template the awful things that would happen if the- large mass of people were idle. The demand 1 for a reduction of the price of coal should be dropped and the demands confined to advance in wages.” TRIPLE ALLIANCE STILL SITS. LONDON, Sept. 2. The latest reports show that- the Executive of the Triple Alliance is remaining in continuous session, and that with power to add to its number. It is expected to approach the Government with the object of opening negotiations. It is said to be unlikely that the Trade Unions will allow matters 1 to drift towards a strike. MINERS STRIKE NOTICES. LONDON, Sept. 2. The Miners Executive have handed in strike notices terminating op the 25th.
