Parer and Mclntosh have arrived at Bathurst en route to Melbourne. They were forced to - land at Richmond owing to magneto. trouble. ’Three inter-State vessels cjre idle owing to the owners refusing a demand for additional trimmers. The vessels concerned are the Bakara,, b iona and Time.
Eir Thomas Hughes, Chairman of the Am a Igaimited Wireless Ltd., informed a meeting of shareholders that the company has undertaken to have a direct service between England and Australia within two years. It has offered to handle all classes of messages at one third of the existing rates, and to give the Commonwealth 25 per cent, of the profits. It would also hand over the stations to the Government free of payment at the end of ten years.
MELBOURNE, August 28. In the representatives, Government Score defeated by 35 to 22 votes on a clause of the Industrial Arbitration Amendment Bill,, in a non-party division. It is understood the Nationalist party subsequently and had a wordy exchange with Mr Hughes. The clause may he resubmitted on Tuesday. '
BRISBANE, August 28. The Medical Congress decided, to found a college of surgeons in Australia and New Zealand. The uniformity of surgical degrees by Australian Univeristies was also urged.
TAKER’S LAST SMASH. SYDNEY, Aug. 29
While flying from Bathurst to Albury, Parer and Mclntosh struck mag•n'eto trouble, and in attempting a forced landing at Culeairn last night, the plane suddenly nose dived when a few feet from the ground. The aviators were thrown clear, and escaped with a severe shaking. Parer states the machine was damaged . beyond repair. One wing was broken, and the rhdder, propeller, and front smashed. They- finish the rest of the journey to Melbourne by train.
ENGINEERS REPORT. NEWCASTLE, Aug. 29. Mr Darlington has recommended the New Zealand Government to acquire British electrical switches in preference, to American for Mrngahoe water power works. He has also reported that Newcastle experiments with Taranaki iron sand were scientifically satisfactory.
ATHLETICS. (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Amateur Athletic Association five mile State cross-country: championship was won by H. Haydon, (Botany), in record time for the course of 28.10 4-o. Both A. and B. grade teams races were won by Botany.

Pastoral circles are suggesting the establishment of Government credits regarding the sale of Australian wool to foreign countries. It is proposed that ten million would be sufficient to float the scheme which would assist French and Italian buyers, handicapped by rates of exchange. Mr Hughes’ reply was non-committal. He was impressed with the advantages, but was afraid tho scheme involved serious financial obligation on the Commonwealth.

FEDERAL POLITICS. MELBOURNE, August 30. The Federal Government’s defeat on the Arbitration Bill has no political signficanee, beyond a possible indication of the formation of a cave in the Nationalist Patpy, as a result of feeling over Mr Watt’s resignation.
