October, I 1919, and in accordance with the ar- > rangement entered into with the Imperial Government. The payments will be made through Brokers by cheque payable to “order.” Any Grower of wool who may not already have directed that amounts due shall be applied to another purpose, may receive payment in the present 1920 Government Loan either in Bonds or Inscribed ‘Stock by notifying the Controller of the Department of Imperial Government Supplies, 125, Lambton Quay, Wellington, to that effect. NEW ZEALAND CLEARING OFFICE ANNOUNCEMENT. GERMAN DEBTS. THE CONTROLLER, of the Clearing Office desires to warn the Public that the Imperial authorities advise attempts ai;e being made by German agents or principals to obtain direct settlement or payment of their pre-war debts from their British creditors. By the terms of the Treaty of Peace Order, 1920, it is unlawful for any person to pay or accept payment, of a debt coming within the provisions of Article 296 of the Treaty of Peace of Versailles, and communication between the parties interested as debtor or creditor is forbidden. Any person contravening this provision is liable to be proceeded against and punished as if he had been guilty of the offence of trading with the enemy. Severe penalties are similarly imposed by German Law on German nationals contravening this provision of the Treaty. > Persons or firms to whom overtures have been, or may be made, for the (settlement of pre-war debts, except through the Clearing Office, are requested to comimieate immediately full, particulars to the Controller of the New Zealand Clearing Office, Public Trust Office, Wellington. New Zealand nationals, who are creditors of German nationals in respect of pre-war debts, and who have not yet notified their claims to the Clearing Office, should do so before the 30th.
