BIG SCORING. : LONDON, August 26. There was fine weather and good /wickets, with heavy scoring in the County cricket matches. Surrey playing agninst Northamps declared at 619 for five wickets. Peach made 200 unfinished, Ducat 149, Fender 113, unfinished in forty minutes, Sandham made 92. Northants made 306. Hampshire playing against^Warwick, declared at 61.6 for seven wickets, (Meade 102 unfinished, Biowji 151, Barrett 148.) ' i Plyaing against Middlesex, Woolley made 96. Fender reached the century in thirty-five minutes, beating Jessop’s record of forty minutes made in 1897. | The score included five sixes, sixteen | fours. Fender gave only two chances. | His driving was wonderful. |

-Playing against Kent in the second innings Hendren scored eighty-four in forty-three minutes, including one sixor and thirteen fours, by terrific hitting. Nothing is settled as regards an amateur team for New Zealand, hut efforts are being made to do so. There is a strong desire to send a team if possible, as the team in Australia is unable tjo visit New Zealand. The Marylebone Club are quite in favour of the scheme.

Middlesex started badly on a good wicket. Surrey’s bowling and fielding being first class. With three down for 35- Warner went in and stonewalled for the first two hours. He batted •faultlessly for five hours for seventy not out. Middlesex made a good uphill fight, losing eight for 253. Warner with Stevens, an Oxford fresh man, added 101 for the seventh wicket. Yorkshire playing against Hampshire lost one wicket for 401 (Holmes not out 230).

Worcestershire only scored 124 against Lancashire,’ three for 114. Troughton of Kent will captain the team for New Zealand. Tennison and A. Carr have joined and Burton of Yorkshire has been invited.
