PROBLEMS OF BIRTH. BRISBANE, Aug. 26. Before the Medical Congress, Doctor Barrington read a paper dealing with problems of birth. He showed that in hospitals and properly conducted institutions the use of anaesthetics and anticeptics, and non-incddlesoms midwifery resulted in an enormous reduction of morbidity and mortality. On tbe other hand, in outside institutions, mothers and babies suffered almost as much as in the past. He stated it was an established fact that a certain disease caused from 30 to 5) per cent of the childless martinge, and 20 per cent of the blindness in infancy.
