TUB POLISH SUCCESS
ENORMOUS CAPTURES REPORTED. (Reuter’s Telegram.)
LONDON, August 24. A Polish communique reports that after desperate fighting they inflicted an immense defeat on the Red northern army and captured Pryasnysz, Mlawa and Soldau, thus, surrounding the 'bulk of the Soviet Fourth Armjy and the whole of the third cavalry, corps, closing the last avenue of retreat for the extreme right wing. The enemy is fleeing in disorder. The booty is enormous and prisoners are very numerous. They add that the Polish centre under Pilsudski continues the northerly advance. Polish cavalry annihilated a heavy artillery group pf twenty two guns destined for the bombardment of AVarsaw and captured a Soviet order instructing the commanders to destroy the artillery batteries, and mount the infantry on the horses, which indicates the measure of the Red panic. The demoralisation in the northern lied armies is spreading to the southern front, where the Reds advancing on Lemberg began to retreat. Polish pursuers have already reached
Official..—The Poles took prisoner 83,000 Russians, whilst 20,000 surrendered to Germany. Another ten thousand are definitely cut off. The Red Army was estimated at 183,000 during the attack on Warsaw, Five fresh divisions being rushed from Siberia, mutineed. Munitions for the Poles, recently landed at Danzig, .lie on the wharves. Transport workers who control the town threaten bloodshed and that they will tear up the railways if a, single .man or rifle is sent to sist the Poles.
AVRANGEL’S ATTITUDE. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) LONDON, August 25. In view of the increase in his territory and with the assent of Cossacks, General Wrangel has issued a decree nominating himself as Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Amy and describing his Government as the South Russian Government. ORDER FOR DANZIG. (Received This Day at 8 a.m.) PARIS, August 25. A Note was sent to Tower at Danzig, in the name of the Conference of Ambassadors asking him to ensure the transit of war material throilgh Danzig in conformity with Poland’s rights under the Treaty of A T ersa.illes. If the dockers at the port will not ensure the landing of cargoes for Poland, the Com missioner will have,to effect the unloading by all available means, ajnd -protect the freedom of work.
LABOUR AND RUSSIA. LONDON, Aug. 25. The Labour Council of Action has replied to a Ho 1? sent to Russia Ijy Mr Lloyd George and Signor Gipljtti. WRANGEL’S HOPES. LONDON, Aug. 25. General Wrangel’s advance into the interior of the Kuban, the great corngrowing region of Russia, is filling the Bolshevik Government with alarm. Trotsky has issued a wireless appeal to the trades unions to concentrate all workmen on Wrangel’s front and to smash him before it is too late. Wrangel’s latest communique reports the capture of an entire regiment. A great rising has occurred against the Bolsheviks in Ekatarinoslav district.
