INSPECTION PARADE
A special muster parade of the local ' Defence forces was held in the Drill Hall on Thursday night. .The occasion was the inspection by Lieut Col. Barton, Chief Staff Officer of the Canterbury military district. The Cadets, about 70 in number, were in command of Limits Parkhill and Niven. There were 40 Territorials present under Lieut Robertson (Adjutant 13th Regiment). On arrival, Col. Barton who was accompanied by Capt. Stedmnn of Greymouth, inspected the whole parade and then proceeded with tile presentation of the Lady Godleycup to Cadet Spohr, and also several marksmen’s badges. In making the presentation, the Lieut. Col. complimented Cadet Spohr on his excellent score (111 out of 115) and expressed the hope that as time went on he would still further improve and find his way to the Trentham butts. He remarked that the cup would be open for competition again next year, and he hoped the present winner would try hard to retain it. Cadet Spoilt was also the recipient of a gold medal which went with the cup. Col. Barton also presented marksmen’s badges to the fol- 1 lowing:— Territorials—Sergt J. P. Ward (89 pts.) ; Pte. A. Marks (80) ; Pte. A. T. Howe (80). 1 Cadets—Ptes. H. Spohr (111), T. Kelly (96), L. S. Ross (951, R. Spohr ' (91),' AV. Stickles (90). After proceeding with an exhibition ] of squad drill and. a shooting test; the parade was dismissed. j
