- BANDITS CAPTURE MEXICO CITY, August 22. A bandit, Zamora captured a partyincluding one Englishman and four Americans which were examining mining properties in the state of Jalisco:. The Englishman is held for fifty thousand pesos ransom and the Americans for two hundred thousand each.
CHINESE REBELLION. NEW YORK, August 23. Advices from Amoy state hostilities continue between the provinces of Fukien, (supporting Anfuites), and-Rwan Aung, which is loyal to the new Peking Government. Fukien troops are reported to have captured Ungung. Another wing of their army is said to be advancing from Taipuhscen; down Han river, with- Chaochuwfu and Swatow as the objectives.
WASHINGTON, August 21. United States has asked Latvia to recall Alfred Nagel, bearing credentials as Latvian secretary of tlie legation. Nagel is regarded as an undesirable and will not be permitted to enter United States.
JAPANESE FEARS. ' WASHINGTON, Aug. 23. Reports from Tokio indicate the new American shipping law continues to cause grave concern in Japanese tradihg and shipping circles, in view of tlie alleged possible menace to Japanese transportation between Japan and America. Advices state leading Japanese steamship companies- doing business with America are preparing an energetic campaign against the new shipping legislation of the American Government. It is pointed out that the failure of United States to inform the public of the character of Japan-Ameri-ean correspondence concerning Saghalian, appears to be due to United States conviction that in tlie interests of good relations between the two Governments there should he as little discussion as possible on prevailing differences between Japan and America.
