Doherty, a returned soldier, died at the hospital last night from the effect of scalds following his falling i into a hot stream seven weeks ago at Ohineniutu. He appeared to be recovering, but liis heart became effected. He leaves a widow.

In reference to the Postal Authorities it has been ascertained that there is no quiries in Wanganui and other piarts of the Dominion may be held as a result of the recent prosecution of the storekeeper postmaster for failing to account for bureau communications. The Department states it is not a. fact that the practice of obtaining free com- | niunications lias been in existence, nor | arc other portions of the Dominion in ainy way involved, Occasionally individual employers have erred in the past, and no doubt some will in future, but the precautions taken to guard against any repetitions are adequate. |
