TENDERS FOR ELECTRIFICATION

WELLINGTON, August 24

The Minister for Public AVorks told the House that Cabinet had approved of negotiations being entered into with the British Electrical Coy. for the electrical work at Otira tunnel. This did not mean necessarily that the Company’s tender would be accepted. The tender .would be accepted solely on the recommendation of the experts who would go thoroughly into the matter. Hon Mr Coates added that he was not at liberty yet to state the amount of the tenders received The prices quoted had been very similar, in fact there had been little difference. The question at issue was which machinery was the most efficient. The period for the completion of the work was eighteen mqntns. The price is understood to he about £300,000.
