IN IRELAND.
fAUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION] IRISH ITEMS. LONDON, Aug. 22. The residences of Mr Arthur Griffiths, the Acting-Sinn Fein President in Ireland, and othher leading Sinn Feinors, have been raided. A quantity,of documents were secured. An order in Council excludes from the “Restoration of Order” Act such districts in Ireland where the ordinary British law can be administered. Dr Mannix and Dr Foley have arranged to visit Mr McSweeney, the imprisoned Lord Mayor of Cork, in Brixton Gaol. It is stated that clergymen advised Mr McSweeney to desist from hunger striking. He refused. He declared he is prepared cheerfully to die. Mr McSweeney is too weak for forcible feeding, yet the British Home Office states it is^determined not to release. The Lr'isli Labour Party declared that his death may lead to an uprising, which .only wholesale slaughter will suppress. ROME, Aug. 18. The Holy See is of the view that there is no reason for it to interfere on behalf of Dr Mannix.
