Thoughts For The Times
Wheiie the Mongolian Race Stands,
It is not unusual to see tlie Polynesians somewhat condescendingly referred to as “distinctly higher in the scale of evolution than the negro.’* This is (fuite true; but a few people realise that they are also distinctly higher than ourselves in the .sense that they have developed further than the West European from the original negroid type. It has been maintained lately—and the statement is meeting with much support in scientific circles in America—that the Mongolian type of man has been the last to evolve and that in this biological sense he is far superior to the West European. If this be so, and the writer believes it, it is obvious that we must modify our opinions of the yellow, races. They are in many ways as well equipped as ourselves for the struggle for existence and should no longer be classed with the negro as one of the inferior races.
